Slug to churn transition in upward vertical two-phase flow
Based on an analysis of the physical mechanism, a new model is developed for the transitions for slug flow to churn flow in vertical pipes. The transition is attributed to the wake effect of Taylor bubbles on highly aerated liquid slugs. The new model is compared with existing models and published experimental data. It is in better agreement with experimental data than existing models.
