Study of the dehydration of isopropanol by a pervaporation-based hybrid process
The permeation characteristics of the commercial polymeric membrane PERVAP (R) 2201 were studied to carry out the dehydration of binary water/isopropanol mixtures. ne influence of the composition (2-75 wt % H2O) and temperature of the feed (311.15-348.15 K) on the membrane performance was studied. The selected membrane showed a high selectivity towards water in the entire concentration range. It was found that the permeation rate increased with the water content and the operating temperature. The influence of the temperature on the flux can be described by an Arrhenius-type expression. The commercial software Aspen Plus was used to simulate the dehydration of isopropanol by means of a hybrid process combining distillation and pervaporation.
