Marangoni effect in the presence of bulk turbulence
A relationship between the surface convection associated with local surface-tension gradients (Marangoni effect) and turbulent pulsations is considered. An energy balance equation is used to evaluate the velocity of near-surface convective patterns. The model is based on the assumption that the local surface-tension gradients are induced by surface chemical reactions of surfactants that takes place in the fluid moving along the surface in two-dimensional roll-like cells. The model obtained makes it possible to calculate the rate of interphase mass transfer.
