Ionic transport in polypyrrole doped with dianionic counterion hexafluorosilicate
Electrodeposition, redox switching, ion transport/exchange, surface topography for a thin polypyrrole film on gold in aqueous sodium hexafluorosilicate solution is reported. The properties have been compared with that corresponding to polypyrrole doped with hexafluoroaluminate and related systems. The dianionic counterion enhances electroactivity of the polymer, slows down ionic transport in the polymer phase, makes a strong impact on a surface structure of the polymer film. An improvement in stability of the anion-exchanger properties is observed. Several electroanalytical methods: chronoamperometry (CA), cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and a microscopic examination of the polymer film surface by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) have been used in the experimental work.
