Template-directed synthesis of boron nitride nanotube arrays by microwave plasma chemical reaction
Highly-ordered boron nitride (BN) nanotube arrays have been synthesized by microwave plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (MW-PECVD) below 520 degrees C under the confinement of anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) template with borane/argon and ammonia/nitrogen as precursors. The low growth temperature and aligned arrangement of the BN nanotubes are beneficial to practical applications despite of the amorphous nature of the product. Novel morphology of Y-branching and dendriform BN nanotubes were also observed when the branching AAO template was used. (c) 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
