Temperature sensitivity control of alkylamide-terminated poly(amidoamine) dendrimers induced by guest molecule binding
We examined the effect of binding of rose bengal (RB) to alkylamide-terminated PAMAM G5 dendrimers on their temperature-sensitive properties. The cloud point of aqueous solutions of the isobutyramide-terminated dendrimer decreased with increasing amount of RB molecules bound to the dendrimer. The propylamide-terminated dendrimer, which is fundamentally temperature-insensitive, also exhibited a cloud point after binding of RB. Results indicate that complexation with guest molecules might be an efficient approach for control of temperature sensitivity or even temperature sensitization of dendrimers.
