Relation between Stokes and anti-Stokes low-frequency light scattering in liquid carbon disulfide
The intensity ratio of Stokes to anti-Stokes light scattering in the low-frequency region (<15 cm(-1)) has been investigated within an accuracy of 0.01 for liquid carbon disulfide at 292 K. The spectrum shows a symmetric lineshape about the excitation frequency in the region less than several wavenumber, indicating that the commonly used relation between these scattering intensities based on canonical distribution breaks down in this frequency region. The symmetric lineshape of the spectrum may arise from its dissipative character.
