Magnetic chiroptical effects in surface second harmonic reflection
We perform surface second harmonic reflection (SHR) to study a chiral stilbene. It exhibits a strong circular intensity difference in the second harmonic signal, but no linear intensity difference and no rotation of polarization. This SHR optical activity is characteristic of strong magnetic effects and proves that the molecule under study exhibits a one-electron chirality.
