Theoretical and experimental characterization of NMR transverse relaxation process related to intermolecular dipolar interactions
NMR transverse relaxation process under intermolecular dipolar interactions of order n was studied quantitatively. An analytical expression was derived using a combined demagnetizing field and the product operation formalism. The theoretical expression predicts that the apparent transverse relaxation time T-2.n = T-2/\n\ for \n\ > 1 during the evolution period, where T-2 is the conventional transverse relaxation time. A modification for the CRAZED pulse sequence which eliminates the influence of radiation damping was proposed for measuring T-2.n. All experimental measurements from spectroscopic or imaging measurements at several different magnetic fields are in excellent agreement with the theoretical prediction.
