Adsorbate-induced enhancement of the magnetic moments of iron clusters
Magnetic deflection measurements were performed on Fe-n and FenHm (n = 10-25) in a molecular beam experiment. The observed high-field deflections were analyzed using the Langevin/Curie law model of superparamagnetism to extract the intrinsic magnetic moments. For n greater than or equal to 13, hydrogenation increased the magnetic moments of the iron clusters substantially. The enhancement was largest for Fe-13 in which a factor of two increase in magnetic moment was observed. (C) 2002 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
