A stepwise growth of polyoxovanadate by reductive coupling reaction with organometallic palladium complex: Formation of [{eta(3)-C4H7)Pd}(2)V4O12](2-),[V10O26](4-) and [V15O36(Cl)](4-)
The three step synthesis of pentadecavanadate, (n-Bu4N)(4)[V15O36(Cl)] has been achieved by a stepwise growth process. The reaction of (n-Bu4N)VO3 with [(eta (3)-C4H7)PdCl](2) gives a tetravanadate supported organometallic compound [{(eta (3)-C4H7)Pd}(2)V4O12](2-). The thermal decomposition of [{(eta (3)-C4H7)Pd}(2)V4O12](2-) leads to the formation of reduced species [V10O26](4-) which is then converted into a larger cluster [V15O36(Cl)](4-).
