Convenient synthesis of (3S,5S)-5-hydroxy- and (3R,5S)-5-chloropiperazic acids, which are the important constituting moieties of an antibiotic monamycin G(3), and their possible stereoisomers constructing of similar antibiotics was achieved from D-and L-glutamic acids in short steps.
