Various optically active secondary alcohols are obtained by asymmetric alkylation of aldehydes with diethylzinc by way of a new catalyst system, ((R)-thiolan-2-yl)diphenylmethanoI and several metal alkoxides. The transition states are also discussed in terms of experimental results and theoretical calculation.
