Spontaneous reduction of gold(III) to gold(l) that leads to the formation of S-bridged (Co2Au2I)-Au-III tetranuclear structure composed of unprecedented C-1-cis(S)-[Co(aet)(2)(en)](+) units: Synthesis and characterization of C2C2- and C1C1-[Au-2{Co(aet)(2)(en)}(2)](4+)
The 1 : 2 reactions of C2C2-[Ni{Co(aet)(2)(en)}(2)](4+) (C2C2-[1](4-); aet = 2-aminoethanethiolate, en = ethylenediamine) with Au-I or Au-III in water gave an S-bridged (Co2Au21)-Au-III, tetranuclear complex, C2C2-[Au-2(1){Co(aet)(2)(en)}(2)](4+) (C2C2-[2](4+)). On the other hand, the corresponding 1 : 1 reaction with Aur' led to the geometrical isomerization of C-2-cis(S)- to C-1-cis(S)-[Co(aet)(2) (en)](+) unit to produce C1C1-[2](4+).
