A modified Stober method has been used to provide a silica coating on ZnO particles while maintaining good dispersion of the ZnO particles. The results showed that the utilization of a previous hydrolysis process could reduce aggregation between core particles in the starting solution and that few little agglomerates appeared during the coating process. Silica coated powders prepared in this study reduced the photocatalysis reaction of ZnO particles.
