Gd@C-82 and Gd-2@C-80 were selectively reduced and extracted directly from the raw soot. Meanwhile, other metallofullerenes including insoluble M@C-60, M@C-70 (M = Gd,Y) were extracted and effectively enriched as anions. These studies present a new route to isolate metallofullerenes in the form of anions.
