Two novel optically active myo-inositol derivatives having a bulky alkyl-silyl group as a hydrophobic part were synthesized. These compounds acted as a gelator toward nonpolar hydrophobic solvents such as n-hexane, cyclohexane, and toluene via the formation of an intermolecular (OHO)-O-... hydrogen bonding network.
