Merocyanine-dye-sensitized photoinitiator generating a free-radical via an intramolecular electron-transfer process
Dye-linked initiators, in which merocyanine 1 and bis(trichloromethyl)-1,3,5-triazine 2 were linked by a different number of methylene chains, were synthesized. The linked initiators were found to be much more effective in the polymerization of acrylates than a simple mixture of the dye/initiator in photopolymer coatings upon irradiation at 430-nm wavelength.
