The reaction of cytosine with 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane and MeOH generated two kinds of salts involving a radical anion and a methoxy adduct anion with a hemiprotonated cytosine pair as the cation part. The crystal structure of the methoxy adduct salt showed a two-dimensional layered structure based on the intermolecular hydrogen bonds.
