A novel S-bridged (Pd2HgII)-Hg-II metallacycle of D-penicillaminate that forms a unique supramolecular structure combined with tetraamminepalladium(II)
The newly prepared [Hg(D-Hpcn-S)(D-Hpen-S)]+ (D-H(2)pen = D-penicillamine) reacted with [PdBr4](2-) in aqueous ammonia to give a (Pd2HgII)-Hg-II cyclic complex, [Pd2HgBr2(D-pen-N,S)(3)(NH3)(2-), by way of a Pd-3(II) cyclic complex, [Pd-3(Dpen-N,O,S)(3)]. The (Pd2HgII)-Hg-II complex was found to aggregate into a cylindrical supramolecular structure in combination with [Pd(NH3)(4)](2+), accommodating [HgBr3(NH3)](-) in its cavity.
