The ruthenium(II) polypyridine labeled cytochrome c(3) derivative, Ru(bpy)(2)(dcbpy)-cytochrome c(3), was synthesized and characterized by using spectroscopic techniques and applied to hydrogen evolution. Ru(bpy)(2)(dcbpy)-cytochrome c(3) can be used as a substrate on hydrogen evolution with hydrogenase.
