The growth process of shaped crystals by the edge-defined-film-fed growth (EFG) technique is described. The characteristics of the defect structure of the EFG grown crystals are discussed. The quality of the crystals is studied by examining the etch pits distribution. The etch pits distribution of the internal structure of the crystals and also that for a given cross-section in the radial direction are described.
