Crystal growth of Ca1.29Bi0.14VO4
A single crystal of fairly large dimensions (4 x 3 x 3 cm) was grown by slow cooling the melt of Ca1.29Bi0.14VO4 composition at a rate of 2 degrees/h. The crystal composition varied slightly with the evaporation of the melt and the resulting change of the melt composition. In the grown crystal, the Bi content in the upper part was greater than that in the lower part; however, the crystal structures of both parts were identical. The crystals grown were characterized by X-ray diffraction and by IR, visible, and UV optical absorption. A 1 mm thick 80% above 450 nm.
