Effect of wetting of melt against die surface on the edge-defined film-fed growth of oxide crystals
An analysis of heat transfer was carried out to investigate the effect of the wetting of melt against a die on the edge defined film fed growth (EFG) process of an oxide crystal. In the present analysis, the bottom line of the melt/gas meniscus on a die surface was movable, and the effect of various growth conditions on the wetting width was investigated numerically. As a result, it was found that the melt/die contact angle as well as the processing conditions for the crystal growth caused the wetting width on a die to vary. Also, the effect of the absorption coefficients of a crystal, i.e., the radiative heat transfer within a crystal, was examined using P-1 approximation. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V.
