Flux growth and morphology of SrCu2(BO3)(2) crystals
In this work, an alternative approach to the single-crystal growth of SrCu2(BO3)(2) (SCB) is suggested. The crystallization process is divided into two stages. First, stoichiometric single-phase ceramics of SCB were sintered in a solid state reaction. Then, SCB single crystals with a size of 7 mm and good crystal quality have been successfully grown from Na2B4O7 based high-temperature solutions, by lowering the temperature within 850-600degreesC at the cooling rate of 0.3degreesC/h. The crystals obtained have strongly developed simple crystallographic forms {001}, {100} and {110}. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
