When systems of equations describing complex kinetics schemes are set up automatically using a computer-aided procedure, the presence of reaction equilibria can give rise to serious difficulties, due to the necessity of introducing material balances that are not explicitly stated. A simple method, based on the use of slack variables and capable of removing these difficulties, is proposed in this Note.
