Determination of the composition of coherently strained islands by transmission electron microscopy
It is shown that the composition of coherently strained islands can be determined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) when "Moire-like" fringes are observed in kinematical images of these islands. The conditions in which such fringes can be observed are specified: high aspect ratio, truncation, etc. The composition is then readily determined by measuring the fringe spacing of the Moire-like system.
