Research News: The stability of conducting polymers is enhanced by the presence in the doped polymer structure of substituents which are able to stabilize positive charge while having only minor steric effects. The insufficient stability of conducting polymers has greatly hindered their wide application but the title compounds have recently been shown to fullfil the above requirements and their synthesis, properties, and potential applications are described.
