Communication: Boron nitride films are of great potential interest due to their hardness and chemical inertness. A new method for their production is proposed based on oligomeric BN precursors. The procedure requires less energy and less general expenditure than previous methods and could now make BN films attractive for application. Details are given and the method and products compared with those of older procedures.
