Research News: Transport-assisted membranes are materials that can perform specific chemical separation and chemical determination tasks. These membranes are conventional polymeric or ceramic membranes incorporating a carrier. The use of this technology in the development of ion-selective electrodes using a variety of cyclic ethers and thioethers (e.g. see Figure) is reviewed.
