Design of conducting redox polymers: A polythiophene-Ru(bipy)(3)(n)circle plus hybrid material
Communication: The thiophene-substituted Ru(L)(3)(2(+)) complex shown in the Figure was synthesized and found to undergo polymerization when electrochemically oxidized. The electrochemical characteristics of the resultant polythiophene-Ru(L)(3)(n(+)) hybrid material were found to be a composite of those displayed by isolated Ru centers and the polymer prepared from the metal-free ligand. This represents a promising approach to novel redox conductors.
