The first oriented thin films based on a nitronyl nitroxide radical
Communication: Oriented thin films based on a molecular organic radical, p-nitrophenyl nitroxyl nitroxide (p-NPNN), are reported. The films are shown to have good optical quality and display two different morphologies, depending on whether they are grown from a (beta+alpha)-phase (see Figure) or a gamma-phase precursor. Applications are foreseen in magneto-optics.
