An interactive approach for qualitative model development is presented The method starts with an a priori known data set which can be obtained e.g. by using an expert interview. A qualitative model is generated from the a priori data by a synthesis method which is described. When the synthesized model is solved new results arise which were not in the original data. These new results are employed as a feedback to the expert which will comment on the results. By using this type of intelligent feedback the expert can provide a more complete description of the modelled object than without such an ＇idea generator＇. The quality of modelling will be improved because more extensive data is available for modelling and since the model is better tested by using the interactive model development strategy presented.
