Superplasticity, creep, and fatigue in advanced ceramics as well as phase relationships and the processing science of high-temperature structural ceramics are presented. Mechanisms for toughening ceramic matrix composites such as the Y-TZP/20 mol-% Al2O3 composite shown in the Figure (the dark particles are alumina grains) are also covered.
