Imaging the absolute polar molecular orientation with monolayer sensitivity
The interference contrast microscope, the principle of which is illustrated in the Figure, is demonstrated to be capable of imaging the absolute polar molecular orientation in a monolayer using the generation of a second-harmonic signal. Techniques for the measurement of polar order in thin films will be required in the development of highly efficient polar materials.
