Spherical clusters of C-60 aggregates, formed in a toluene/acetonitrile mixture, are assembled electrophoretically as nanostructured thin films on conducting glass, AFM (see Figure) shows that the C-60 clusters (100-300 nm diameter) are packed as 3D arrays, giving the film a highly nanoporous morphology. With rising deposition voltage, the packing density of the fullerene clusters within the film increases.
