Effects of carbon nanotubes on grain boundary sliding in zirconia polycrystals
Introducing carbon nanotubes into Carbon Nanotubes zirconia is shown to drastically reduce grain boundary sliding and consequently mechanical loss at high temperatures. The nanotubes are observed at the grain boundaries by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (see Figure) and are related to the reduction of superplastic flow through the boundaries, which should improve creep resistance.
