Rheo-mechanical and rheo-optical investigations of locust bean gum kappa-carrageenan mixtures
Synergistic effects of polymer mixtures in solution can have a strong influence on the flow behaviour and are of decisive importance in applications. The biopolymer mixture locust bean gum/kappa-carrageenan is used as an example to demonstrate that rheo-optical techniques are very well suited for detecting such phenomena and helping to explain them. Moreover, it is shown that in certain cases rheo-optical investigations are ten times more sensitive than mechanical methods.
