Electromembrane processes for waste stream treatment: electrodialysis applied to the demineralization of phenylalanine solutions
The recovery of DL-phenylalanine with the simultaneous removal of salts was obtained at laboratory scale by conventional electrodialysis using CDS and ADP commercial ion-exchange membranes (Solvay). The demineralization ratio (95%) and the amino acid recovery (85%) did not depend on the applied current density. A batch-mode was carried out at 60 mA.cm(-2) without any irreversible sorption effect of the amino acid within the ion-exchange membranes.
