Indirect Anodic-Oxidation of Benzyl Alcohol in the Presence of Phase-Transfer Catalyst in a Cster - Effect of Current-Density, Organic-to-Aqueous Volume Ratio and Concentration of Phase-Transfer Catalyst
The effects of current density, organic-to-aqueous volume ratio (R(v)) and concentration of phase-transfer catalyst on current efficiency, conversion of benzyl alcohol, yield and selectivity of benzaldehyde, power consumption, and induction period were systematically studied in this work. The current efficiency of the oxidation of chloride ion to hypochlorite ion were evaluated as 62.0 and 65.0%, respectively, when R(v) was 1.0 and 2.0. The current efficiency for production of benzaldehyde was indicated by the experimental data as having decreased at a high organic how rate (2.0 ml min(-1)) when the concentration of phase-transfer catalyst decreased, and the current density and R(v) increased. The conversion of benzyl alcohol and yield of benzaldehyde increased, and the selectivity of benzaldehyde decreased at a high organic flow rate when both the current density and the concentration of phase-transfer catalyst increased. The power consumption was confirmed by the experimental results as having decreased when the current density decreased and the concentration of phase-transfer catalyst increased.
