Plating of Magnesium from Organic-Solvents
In search of a reversible magnesium electrode at ambient temperature the solubilities, conductivities and reduction potentials of nine magnesium compounds, including MgCl2, MO(CF3SO3)(2) and Mg-acetylacetonate, were studied in 20 aprotic organic solvents (N- and O-donors) and 70 of their mixtures[1]. Although the goal was not reached, electrochemical dissolution and reduction of magnesium have been observed in systems with Mg(CF3SO3)(2) and the solvents dimethylformamide (DMF) dimethylacetamide (DMA) or gamma-Butyrolactone (gamma-BL).
