A review of biographical data and the scientific contributions of A. N. Frumkin (1895-1976) has been given, in the context of the evolution of the most important problems of theoretical electrochemistry. Considerations about the role of electrochemistry in the history of science as well as about Frumkin’s personality have been advanced. A. few personal recollections of the author and other electrochemists have been mentioned as well.
