Hydrocatalytic processes are playing an increasingly large role in production of petroleum base oils due to the increase in demand for high-quality lube oils that satisfy API group II and III requirements and to stiffening of the requirements for limiting atmospheric emissions of the harmful solvents used in traditional technologies. Increasing the quality of lube oils while simultaneously improving the ecology inevitably involves higher production costs. New highly efficient technologies and equipment are being developed to reduce product costs, which determine the competitiveness on the consumer market.
