Empirical equation to account for the length dependence of line tension
Measured values of the three-phase line tension in the literature are correlated with the spreading parameter and with the radii of the drops or bubbles under investigation. The latter dependence contradicts an assumption of the modified Young equation. We suggest an alternative empirical formulation that describes the data consistently, and we discuss its possible physical significance.
