Trends in evolution of CO2 emissions in Romania and perspectives for diminishing their environmental impact
The paper presents the activities of Romanian specialists concerned with CO2 emissions arising from human activities, primarily the main factors responsible for the rapid climate changes. The first section shows the CO2 emissions' level for the last years, related to European emissions, concurrently with a comparative presentation of main sources and their contribution to the global CO2 emissions in Romania. Furthermore the paper presents the prognosis for the CO2 emissions' evolution in Romania up to 2020. Further, the research activity performed in Romania and the results obtained so far are presented for the development of a suitable CO2 retention technology to reduce CO2 emissions from flue gas generated by power plants. The paper also highlights the possibilities for further utilization in industry of the CO2 retained through application of the technology developed by ICPET-CERCETARE for CO2 retention.
