A convenient method for Knoevenagel and Nitroaldol condensation has been developed by using the inexpensive and environmentally friendly reagent I-2/K2CO3 at room temperature in aqueous medium. The reaction condition is mild and simple with good to high product yields for both Knoevenagel as well as Nitroaldol condensation.
