Microcantilever Pb2+ sensor using re-supramolecular functionalization with crown-ether-like recognition sites
Microcantilevers with surface functionalization have provided the possibility of chemicomechanical transductions for sensing applications. In this article, a newly Re-based supramolecule (metallacycle) comprised of a large cavity structure and crown-ether-like recognition sites was first used as the functionalization materials for Pb2+ detection. From the graft of metallacycle onto a self-assembled monolayer modified microcantilever surface, the surface configurations of adequate wetting property, strong covalent immobilization, and selective Pb2+ adsorption were obtained. The Pb2+ sensing results also revealed that the metallacycle-functionalized microcantilever exhibited excellent sensing performances with high sensitivity, low detection limit, as well as a wide detectable regime ranging from 10(-7) to 0.1 M.
