Ordering and orientational diffusion processes in thin dipolar liquid crystal film on metal surface
The influence of electron injection from the metal electrode into organic liquid crystalline film, comprised of the polar molecules, such as 4-n-pentyl-4'-cyanobiphenyl, on the orientational ordering, metal work function, and self-diffusion processes was investigated. The metal work function and the set of order parameters were investigated experimentally, using the optical techniques, whereas the orientational self-diffusion process was investigated theoretically, in the framework of the molecular model which takes into account, on the one hand, the random walk theory for calculation of the rotational self-diffusion coefficient, and, on the other hand, the effect of the injected carrier for calculation of the orientational distribution function.
