Physical properties of substituted 1,3-dioxolan-2-ones
The use of a simple 1,3-dioxolan-2-one (EC) moiety allows us to investigate the substituent effect on the physical properties as highly polar solvents. We describe the temperature dependence of mass densities (rho), refractive indexes (n(D)), relative permittivities (epsilon(r)), and dynamic viscosities (eta) of EC, 4-methyl-1,3-dioxolan-2-one (MeEC), 4-ethyl-1,3-dioxolan-2-one (EtEC), 4-fluoro-1,3-dioxolan-2-one (FEC), and 4-methoxymethyl-1,3-dioxolan-2-one (MMEC). Both epsilon(r), and epsilon of MMEC and FEC are higher than those of EC at low temperatures.
