Measurement and Correlation of the Solubility of 1-Alkanols (C-14, C-16), in N-Alkanes (C-7-C-16)
The solubility of C-14, C-16 n-alkanols (1-tetradecanol and 1-hexadecanol) in hexadecane and 1-tetradecanol in heptane has been measured by a dynamic method from 290 K to the melting point. These and previous data concerning solubilities in normal alkanes (C-7-C-15) are correlated by means of Wilson, UNIQUAC, UNIQUAC ASM and two modified NRTL equations. The root-mean-square deviations of the solubility temperatures for all calculated data vary from 0.1 to 3.2 K and depend on the particular equation used. In the calculations, the existence of two solid-solid first-order phase transitions in alkanols has also been taken into consideration.
